Art In Bloom, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
April 2011
PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD, ART IN BLOOM 2011
Art In Bloom happens every two years as a fundraiser for the Greater Victoria Art Gallery. I was invited to participate in the Interprations where artists, floral and landscape designers, etc interpret in floral/ botanicals a piece of artwork or furniture from the art gallery's collection. These interpretations are displayed to the public over the course of the event.
In my evelope was a picture of a table from the 1800s. A very LARGE boardroom table with 10 leaves. I decided to do a piece to balance the man-made, contained, indoor aspects of the oak table and create something natural and wild that belongs outdoors. A 4ft nest with 8ft branches.
The Nest won People's Choice Award, Art In Bloom 2011. It has been donated to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and currently resides in the Asian Garden.

Dark Sides Light at the Victoria International Airport
December 2010
The painting 'Dark Sides Light' is hanging at the Victoria International Airport for six months. The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria installs new work on a half year rotation to expose the artists represented in their Art Sales & Rental program. It's very exciting not only having a painting at the airport but for my piece 'Feather' to be selected as one of the paintings shown to promote this program on the AGGV website.
Art, Food & Wine
September 2010
If you are a local Victorian or just visiting this gorgeous city, there are a number of my pieces hanging at Cafe Brio on Fort Street. This restaurant is top rated in Canada - gorgeous, stunningly delicious with a fantastic menu and atmosphere. If you love art, food and wine, this is the place. Most of the work is for sale.
All Your Art Is Sold!
September 2010
Another wonderful AGGV Summer Small Works Show is over. Yet another amazing selection of affordable, original art by local artists. All four of my pieces sold... which brings me to the point. I am aware that most of the work on this site is already sold. I am not a prolific artist and I actually was taking a year off to gather myself after a frenetic few years keeping up. This has been cut short by demand and... I'm thankful. Thankful to all those who support artists by buying original art work, support creative expression and for me personally, those who tell me how much they love what I do. It means the world to me to connect. I feel lucky. And I'm now very, very busy getting some new work out there.
Teeny Art
A series called 'Teeny Art' - an ongoing project of tiny canvases. These painterly, narratives of whimsy are a nod to illustration, small stories and little things that are big.
'The Words Come At Night' and 'Up'

Kunamokst Mural Mosaic
Unveiling of Kunamokst during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Visit West Vancouver for more details.
Invitation to participate in
the Kunamoskt Mural Mosaic - a huge collaboration of over 200
artists. Each artist received a 12 x 12 panel on which to
paint a West Coast theme and each panel is part of the resulting
mural image. The project will be permanently installed on
Galiano Island but is being unveiled in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics. My panel was No.30 - a dark blue/purple so I created
' Whale Dreams'. Visit www.muralmosaic.com.

Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
'Small Works' Show Series
The Art Gallery of Greater
Victoria has a Summer and Winter 'Small Works' show series
where original art work is packed floor to ceiling and affordable.
It is a great opportunity to collect or just peruse original
art from both upcoming and established local artists.
Prices are very reasonable as the work is limited in size.
Well worth a visit and it's just a matter of dropping by
over the course of the show.
'She Wore Them Everywhere' and
'New Red Shoes' sold within the first week so I suggest
attending early. I personally picked up a gorgeous oil painting
by Irma Soltonovich.

White Dresses: New Paintings by Deb
Garlick
II have had the joy of finding special
surprises in galleries before. However, a few months ago
I found a few treasures that just will not leave my mind.
I relate to them in a way that is rare and I really need
to find a way to get one on my own wall. Thanks to Estel
Gallery, I now have my chance, and so do you. When was the
last time you asked yourself, “May I have the next dance?”
Estel Gallery is pleased to present a celebration of introspection,
White Dresses: New Paintings by Deb Garlick from July 25
to August 25, 2007. The reception with the artist will be
August 4, 2007, from 6pm to 9 p.m.
In our culture, white dresses represent
innocence not tainted by the stains of life. Canadian artist
Deb Garlick captures this purity in her paintings with sophisticated
elegance and whimsy. In her work the color seems to emanate
from the women and girls donning these dresses. Garlick
explains, “I strive to achieve an understated complexity
and a stillness that I hope creates enough momentum to make
people stop.”
From grand moments in a wedding dress
in "Big Deal" to the simple play of a cotton summer
dress in “27,28,29…” Garlick invites viewers to take
a peek and find the joy within.
Deb Garlick earned a B.A. in Visual
Arts and Art History from the University of Victoria in
Canada in 1995. Upon graduation, she lived in England for
six years, where she worked as a voiceover artist for international
radio and television broadcasts. In 2003, she returned both
to Canada and to painting. She has been successfully exhibiting
her artwork since, and she has developed a strong style
that is diverse but always recognizable. She is also a professional
photographer and continues to lend her voice to documentary
narration. Garlick currently lives in Victoria, British
Columbia. Her work is in private collections in Canada and
the United States.
Estel Gallery opened in downtown Nashville
in October 2006. The gallery strives to expose patrons and
collectors to exceptional new and emerging contemporary
artists, whose work is innovative, stimulating and moving.
Located at 115 8th Ave. North, the gallery is open Tuesday
through Friday from 11a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Before or after hours appointments are
welcome.
